I hate contractions. Contraction are the end of a dive for me. As soon as I get one contraction, the fun of the dive is over.
Sometimes during some fun dives I can take 2-3 contractions before I’m going up again. But when diving for depth, distance and especially time, the contraction is just the bell going off to tell me I should get out.
Contractions aren’t my friend anymore after I tried to fight them back in 2003. I set my static personal best in that year with a 4:35 minutes static, but not long after that I fell into my pool freediving burnout.
Now, I want to get in the pool again and become friends with mr contraction, but I’m afraid it will give me a burnout when I start meeting him. I’m looking for some new approaches on this, and maybe the readers here could give me a hand. If you’ve got any ideas to get used to contractions again, and to get and stay comfortable with them, just leave a comment. Thanks!
Jorg,
some of the pranayama bandhas can help control contractions. If you grip the perineum as you start to feel the contraction it helps alleviate it.
You might send a message to Simon-Borg-Olivier ( yogasynergy) on Facebook. He instructed a course I attended at William Trubridge’s Vertical Blue School. Simon may have some suggestions to help you.
