Getting to good results in the pool

Our Training Pool

Yesterday was pool training again. Only Sanne and me this time, so not discussions possible about buddy couples or anything like that. First up was me again. Started with my regular static at depth with a 1 minute hold, building it up with 10 seconds every next time. At the 5th attempt I was getting pretty cold down there and started shivering, but somehow at the 6th everything felt in place and it felt very easy. The plan was to do a 1:50 min static at 5 meters with the last one, but I managed to do a pretty easy 2:10 without contractions.

Next was dynamic without fins for me. I let myself drop to 5 meters depth and push off the wall. Really concentrating on technique, but that is somewhat difficult if you’re a little to negative at that depth. I’m not wearing any weights so maybe next time I have to bring some balloon. Or should I just swim a little higher? Anyway, at 25 meters I decided to turn and do another half lap. Just for relaxation and not to push it. I noticed a big Co2 build up from 25 meters on, and that’s really something I have to work on. So at 37,5 meters, it was time to swim the 5 meters back to the surface. Felt good!

Afterwards C4 fins time! Started with a first 25 meters with a kick and glide and arms at my sides. No lactic acid built up in the first 25 meters. Turn and changing the technique to bi fins kicking and arms above my head. I already decided today was the day I would do 50 meters again in the pool. It was pretty easy, as expected. But nevertheless it’s been since 2003 since I did a 50 meter lap in the pool! And the great thing is, that I enjoyed doing it! So have to keep it light, simple and easy and who knows where this will bring me.

Afterwards it was Sanne his turn. Sanne also started doing with some statics @ 5, but it appears he gets bored pretty quickly with that. I don’t think I’ve seen him really relax down there at all! He did 5 attempts, and all where filled with some activity. At one he was aligning the weights on his belt and on the other one he was searching for a good sitting position at the pool wall. Funny to see! But still he managed to do a pretty active 2:10 static as well. Afterwards he also did some FRC dives to the bottom, really trying to relax. Something we’re going to train a lot more during depth training sessions.

Sunday is planned for the next sessions, so you will hear from us after that!
